Summer Meals 2021

All Kids 18 and Younger Eat Free at Swain County School Cafeterias
Swain High, East and West Cafeterias open for meal pick-up June 14th- August 6th, Monday- Friday 7:30am- 1:30pm (closed Mon. July 5th)

Families may pick up 5 or 2 days of meals at a time, 2 times per week for total of 7 meals/week. Groups of 10 or more kids call ahead for pick up/ delivery

Plan B Students return to In Person Instruction 4 days/week on Feb 22

All Plan B Elementary Students (K-5) will begin 4 days a week of in person instruction beginning on February 22, 2021. The new schedule will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for in person instruction in the classroom. Wednesday will continue to be a remote learning day. This change will not affect Elementary Plan C students (Virtual Learning Students) or High School, Middle School or Bright Adventures students.

Kindergarten Registration for Swain County Schools

Swain County Schools will be holding registration for students that will be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year. Registration Day will be held at West Elementary on April 14 and at East Elementary on April 21. Times will be from 8:00 AM- 3:30 PM.
Students must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2021 in order to be eligible to enroll. Parents should bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization record, social security card, proof of residency (such as a power bill) and any other information such as custody papers and Tribal Enrollment Card.
Both elementary schools will be requiring that the students are present so that an assessment of basic skills can be completed. Students will NOT be enrolled until the assessment has been completed.
Students will receive a bag of items that parents may use to prepare the child for kindergarten. The items will be paid for from Title 1 Parent Engagement Funds.
If it is not possible for your child to be present on the appropriate registration day, an appointment must be made by Lisa Sutton by calling 488-2119 ext 5525.

Social Distancing and masks will be required during this time at each school

Weather Warning - February 16, 2021

Swain County Schools will issue a WEATHER WARNING when weather conditions are or will be present that have the potential for delays or cancellation of school. WEATHER WARNINGS will be issued in advance so that our community can be prepared IF school is delayed or cancelled. The Warning will also alert our community to the possibility of weather situations during travel as well as for students who wait on buses. Please note that the WARNING does not mean schools will be delayed or cancelled, only that the possibility exists. Check all Maroon Devil media outlets for updates, delays or cancellations.

Board of Education Meeting

The Swain County Board of Education will meet, Monday, February 8, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. in the Swain County Administration Building, 50 Main Street, 3rd
Floor Auditorium, Bryson City, NC 28713.

Appropriate social distancing and mass gathering limits will be observed. The meeting will be broadcast on the school system YouTube link at Maroon Devil Network.

Optional Teacher Workday, Feb 2

Due to deteriorating road conditions, Tuesday, February 2, there will be no school for students and it will be an optional teacher workday for staff.
