Upcoming Webinar: Supporting Boys: Mental Health Strategies for Young Men
When the boys in your life shut down, act out, or seem to be struggling beneath the surface, it can be hard to know how to help. Many parents and caregivers wonder how to start the conversation — and how to make it stick.
Join Cartwheel and Chris Smith, LCSW, CGP, psychotherapist and Director of the Looking Ahead program, for a free live webinar: Supporting Boys: Mental Health Strategies for Young Men on Tuesday, June 4 from 12–1 pm ET.
Parents and caregivers will learn practical strategies to recognize the signs of mental health challenges in boys and young men, understand why struggles often go unspoken, and open the door to connection and support at home. Chris will also share how everyday relationships and routines can play a powerful role in a young man's emotional wellbeing.

Thank you Mrs. Turbyfill for coming to share some campfire songs with our kindergarten and first grade classes! We had a blast!

A gigantic shout-out to our incredible teachers, students, and families for making today's testing an absolute, roaring success!
In fact, our Principals have been bragging all afternoon about just how incredibly hard their students worked today. They could not be prouder of the focus, determination, and grit shown in every single classroom! 🌟👏
Talk about a total team effort. Check out these amazing numbers:
📊 ~740 3rd-8th grade students scheduled to test today.
🚫 Only 5 students did not attend.
An attendance rate that high only happens when everyone works together.
🍎 To our Teachers: Thank you for your endless prep, encouragement, and dedication.
🏡 To our Families: Thank you for getting kids to bed early, managing morning routines, and reinforcing the importance of showing up.
🎒 To our Students: Thank you for showing up, bringing your A-game, and making your principals brag!
But wait... it's not over yet! 🏁 We have TWO MORE DAYS of testing left. Let’s keep this incredible momentum going, stay focused, and finish strong! 🚀💪

At the end of the day on May 13, a Swain West Elementary School teacher responded to a report of a possible gun in a student's bookbag. The teacher immediately confiscated the bookbag, notified school officials, and determined that the item was a toy gun. We want to reassure our community that at no point were students or staff in any danger.
School officials followed all established safety protocols to ensure our learning environment remained secure and orderly. This incident marks the second time in the past week that a potential threat was identified and resolved quickly, preventing the need for a campus-wide lockdown.
We need your partnership to keep our campuses safe. Please take a moment this evening to speak with your children about appropriate behavior and school rules.
Important Reminder: No weapons of any kind—including toys, look-alikes, or replica items—are permitted on school grounds at any time. Bringing these items to school creates unnecessary alarm and disrupts the educational environment. We remain fully committed to maintaining a safe, focused environment for every student and staff member. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance.
Please join us in congratulating these outstanding students for the positive impact they have on our schools and community every day.
